What are your thoughts on David Carr signing with the Carolina Panthers?

Do you think it’s a good move for him and for the Panthers? Or do you think that it won’t work for either of the two sides? Also what are your thoughts on Ricky Williams wanting to come back to the league?

It’s a good idea, because Dellomme is not playing good, and Carr is a good back up if Dellomme starts playing bad.

Good move for Carr. The only teams that he would have started for he would not have succeeded in. He went to a team where there is a chance the QB could get injured or play poorly and he could get the start. Plus the team is a winning team with a good OL. As for the Panthers couldnt be worse than Chris Weinke. I think Ricky Williams is going to have something to prove and is apparently in the best condition of his life so he should have a decent year if he splits carries with the Dolphins. Then if he stock is up he will probably get traded to a team that needs a solid running back so the Dolphins and Ricky get what they want.

  7. Tori M says:

I think its a good move for Carr and for the Panthers: it will give Delhomme some competition, so he’ll up his game and it will give Carr time behind a decent offensive line. I think both QB’s will thrive.
I also think it’s a good idea to let Ricky Williams back- he did his time. Canadian football for one year is enough punishment :)

  8. TDK says:

I’m happy for him. Unfortunately, i’m not sure why Carr would agree to being a backup when he surely can be a starter for a team. Nevertheless, he can work with Delhomme and hopefully those 2 can improve their games individually and help the Panthers.

As far as the Panthers are concerned, with the way QBs drop left and right in this league, they are now assured of having 2 starting QBs for depth. Delhomme has a history of injuries and Carr is now a better than average backup for him.

As far as Ricky Williams, he should just stop. Once a pothead, always a pothead. Some things just don’t change.

I think it was a good move. I live in NC and am a carolina fan. If Jake’s play falters their is always a chance that Carr could step in and be tony Romoesque he’s got some mobilitly and who knows how well he will function in an offense with as much talent as the Panthers or Delhomme could step up to secure his spot on the depth chart

I think it’s a good move for David Carr. He played behind an absolutely horrible offensive line in Houston, so getting behind a pretty good line in Carolina will only help. I’d like to see how he’ll do when he actually has protection and doesn’t have to run for his life every down like he did in Houston.

For the Panthers, it’s not a bad signing. Carr’s got a bad rap because of his poor production, but a lot that has to do with the fact that the Texans never gave him a decent offensive line or running game. He’ll definitely push Delhomme, but unless there’s an injury, Carr will only see the field in garbage time (up or down by a lot in the 4th quarter).

As for Ricky Williams, he was suspended for a year and is allowed to apply for reinstatement. If he still wants to play, he’s served his penalty and should be allowed back, assuming there’s a team out there willing to take the risk on him.

  11. CarolinaKitten says:

Yeah it’s a good move for the Panthers to sign an insurance policy for the struggling Jake Delhomme. PLUS..this will be the first time Carr ever gets to play behind an offensive line that will protect him. As a diehard fan, I’m kind of questioning this. We sign a QB with that kind of potential and he’s going to be a back up..I just don’t get it. Delhomme should be the back up QB for us. We’ll have to wait until preseason so see how he can operate in our offense. He’s bound to do better than in Houston, Carolina has a great group on offense…just underachieved a bit last year (to say the least….).

Ricky Williams on the other hand, I have to agree with the ESPN analysts in that he wont be the same impact guy he used to be, I think he’s going to play that 2 role in a 1-2 punch for some team. He can still make plays, I’m sure, but…would you risk centering a team around him?

  12. Soulful Kris says:

A change of scenery will be good for him.

Ricky will be given another chance, but I don’t think he has the heart to live up to his expectations.

  13. Rooster Resurrected says:

i just hope he will have more games on his feet there than he did in Houston… he was a great college QB, i hope he gets a chance to do well now.

  14. jessie bc says:

carr has potential behind a good line. i think it was a great move on the panthers behalf. they have the talent on the team, and will fill in a big piece of their puzzle with a good qb. i always thought delhomme was good, just struggled this past year. a little competition wont hurt them. no comment on ricky williams. i’ll let the league decide what they should do on that. too big of a mess for me to even want to talk about.
