Carolina Panthers – Past and Present

Monday, September 28th, 2009
It was at the later quarter of 1993 that the Carolina Panthers were awarded an NFL expansion franchise. Thousands of people literally celebrated with this good news. Businessman Jerry Richardson, the person who led Carolina’s bid, proclaimed the award to be a dream come true. The dream started way back 1987 when Richardson met other interested parties to discuss the feasibility of entering a multi-city competition for two NFL expansion franchises.

Everything was made official December of the same year. After a year of tedious planning, Hall of Fame Mike McCormack was hired as a consultant for the expansion effort. Selecting the stadium site was the first thing to be done and the site in Uptown Charlotte was chosen. Because of the huge efforts put into the Carolina’s franchise bid, a lot of support was received from then US Senators Jesse Helms and Ernest Hollings as well as Governors Carroll Cambell and Jim Martin. Fans also did their part by demonstrating their support in exhibition games played in 1990 and 1991 respectively.

However, problems arose in 1992 with regards to the ongoing NFL labor situation and the expansion vote was delayed until the fall of 1993. It served as a great news however that on January of the same year, the league and its players reached the seven-year Collective Bargaining Agreement. And during the month of March, the expansion race resumed.

June of the same year, Richardson Sports revealed that it was willing to finance as 72,300 seat stadium. By the start of July, all club seats and luxury boxes were sold out. On October of 1993, NFL owners selected the Carolina Panthers as the 29th NFL franchise and the first expansion team since the year 1976.

The Panthers played their inaugural game during the annual AFC-NFC Hall of Fame Game in Ohio against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Both teams benefited from the exposure and proved themselves ready to compete in the NFL. Ever since then, the Panthers improved continuously and into the NFC championship game in its second season.

In 2003, the Panthers won the NFC championship to earn a spot in the Super Bowl XXXVIII. At present, the Panthers have their hopes high to knockout the Falcon’s hope for the division title. They have conditioned their minds on how badly Atlanta wants to win the game against them so they can take the proper strategy in what can be called as the biggest upset of the year.

The Panthers are eyeing to clinch the NFC division title, just like any other team would but they have a great chance of getting it because of the team that they are. Improvement in defense as well as offense should be done to ensure that they will win the succeeding games. The Panthers are outstanding players with a great coach, they just need to synchronize and get into the same level with one another so that they can play a better game out in the field. Well, let’s wait and see how things go for the Carolina Panthers.

are there wild panthers in the N.C. foothills husband ran into one on the way home from work?

does any one know if there are panthers in the north carolina mountains because my husband ran into one on the way home from work…

What do you think about Tampa Bay’s Def/st for Fantasy Football purposes?

Saturday, September 26th, 2009

I started with the Carolina Panthers and high hopes. I am now ready to start shopping for a backup plan. Tampa Bay is the highest rated defense available on Yahoo!, but ESPN doesn’t like them. Some other options are Miami, NY Jets, Arizona, Kansas City, or sticking with the panthers. It’s a 12 man league, and I’m not doing so hot.

And, no, I really don’t know anything about football, that’s why I’m relying heavily on other peoples opinions to get me out of this slump.

My league’s defense scoring goes like this:

Sack (1)
Interception (2)
Fumble Recovery (2)
Touchdown (6)
Safety (2)
Block Kick (2)
Points Allowed 0 points (10)
Points Allowed 1-6 points (7)
Points Allowed 7-13 points (4)
Points Allowed 14-20 points (1)
Points Allowed 21-27 points (0)
Points Allowed 28-34 points (-1)
Points Allowed 35+ points (-4)

Can the panthers hold out without Julius Peppers?

Peppers said he wants out of carolina. But even if we franchise tag him we would have to pay him loads and he might sit out

Peppers May Serve Up Tony’s Ribs On a Platter!

Friday, September 25th, 2009
I’m not sure if the rest of America has this same problem, but when I think of new starting quarterback Tony Romo Dallas my mind instantly shifts to that mouth watering “Rib joint” called Tony Roma’s.

The boss has spoken and Cowboys coach Bill Parcells has banished Drew Bledsoe to the sidelines and replaced him with the more athletic Romo. How ironic it was on Monday night when the Dallas faithful gave Tony a standing ovation as he trotted out to begin the second half and then promptly threw and interception on the first play.

The lads at America’s favorite sportsbook Sportsbook have installed the Carolina Panthers as -5 point favorites for Sunday’s battle and you can bet that Julius Peppers and his cohorts are salivating at the thought of the inexperienced QB getting his first NFL start on the road in a hostile environment.

Forget about Terrell Owens, Terry Glenn and Jason Witten, the Pokes need the offensive line to step up and open some holes for Julius Jones to keep the pressure off the nervous pivot.

The good news for bettors who like to back the Cowboys is the fact that Jerry Jones employees are 3-0 against the spread as underdogs their past three visits to Carolina, including a 4-point winner last season.

After watching Plaxico Burress torch Roy Williams and his posse, one must wonder how they will corral sensational wide receiver Steve Smith. While all this is playing out, I think it is time for Demarcus Ware and Marcus Spears to step up and force Jake the Snake Delhomme to make some mistakes.

Dallas has been lacking on the road with losses at Philadelphia and Jacksonville and a point spread cover in the Music City. As for the Panthers, they have struggled in their den, with losses to New Orleans and Atlanta and a ½ cover against the woeful Browns.

The point total has been set at 41 and that may just be too generous as I look for Parcells to play ‘Ground War’ and limit the chances that Romo has of giving the game away.
